Seasonal Highlights

1. Climate in China

During summer 2015, the mean precipitation was 297.6mm over China, which was 8.5% below normal (325.2mm). The seasonal surface air temperature averaged over China was 21.2°C, with 0.3°C above normal (20.9).  For the season, extremes of High Temperature (HT), Consecutive High Temperature (CHT), Daily Precipitation (DP) and Continuous Precipitation Days (CPD) were observed in China.

 

2. General Circulation Features

Northern Hemisphere: In the summer of 2015, in the field of mean 500hPa geopotential height anomaly, positive anomalies above 4 dam covered the regions from the central polar to locations of northeastern North America, central Europe, mid-southern Russia. Meanwhile, negative anomalies below -4 dam observed over the northeastern North Atlantic Ocean, parts of northwestern Russia.

Southern Hemisphere: During summer, in the field of mean 500hPa geopotential height anomaly, positive anomalies over 4 dam were observed over the southeastern South Indian Ocean, the southwestern South Pacific, the the mid-southern South Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile, negative anomalies below -4 dam covered from the western Antarctica to southern South America.
