this season, the mean surface air temperatures were observed 0.5-1.0℃below normal in
most of eastern and northern China. Temperatures were observed 1.0℃ above
normal in northern Heilongjiang, the Qing-Zang
Plateau and the nearby regions, with positive departures above 2℃ in most of
Qinghai and portions of Tibet. For the winter, precipitation totals were 30% ~100%
more than normal in most of Northeast China, North China, western Xinjiang, northernwest gansu, western and eastern Tibet, northern Sichuan and the Middle
and Lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with 100-200% more than average in

this winter, rainfall totals were 30% more than average in most of mid-latitude
regions in North Hemisphere and parts of northwestern
Northern
Hemisphere: During winter, the mean 500hPa geopotential
height field exhibited a 3-wave pattern at the mid-high latitudes. Geopotential height were observed near or above normal in
the mid-high latitudes, with positive anomalies above 8 dam dominated the
northern North Atlantic Ocean the coasts of central Russia, and the regions
south to Alaska, with the maximum above 16 dam.
Southern Hemisphere: The mean 500hPa geopotential height field exhibited that a zonal circulation prevailed at the mid-high latitudes. In the height anomaly field, near-normal heights were observed in most of the southern hemisphere.
